Maasai boys love to practice throwing spears, and jumping. One day they will be strong men and leaders of their tribe. Lemayan is excellent with the goats and his father is proud of his capable son.

One dreadful day all that changes and the tribe's way of life hangs in the balance; the drought attacks their pastures; worms attack the cattle and the whole tribe has to sell all their animals. To make matters worse Lemayan falls sick - but no one realises just how sick.

Lorna Eglin was a missionary in Kenya who now lives in South Africa. She has lived and worked alongside the tribes of East Africa, amongst whom this story is based.
