Actually Love: Scenes Of Love, Life And A Little More
Pete Townsend
Do you remember that first kiss which left you wondering . . .Do you remember your first tiff, which left you scratching your head and wondering . . .Or the first time your partner drove on the motorway; an event which left you a gibbering, dribbling wreck, pondering . . .. . . Is this actually love?
This books take a wry look at some if these incidents and more in an attempt to gain an insight into this phenomenon we call love. It considers our first kiss, our last kiss, the misunderstandings, arrogance, arguments, betrayal and the process of growing old disgracefully, in a series of sketches weaving their dialogue around most the the issues that we encounter at some stage in our life.
Dealing with many instances where we question the concept of love and its effect on our lives, Actually Love? gives us a prod in the ribs, once or twice, a jab at our conscience.
Recognising that it's not just the kids who want to have fun in church, this series of sketches could easily be used during the 'adults only' section of the service. Not because they're risqué or anything, bit because the humour and messages might be appreciated by those 'adults' who have experienced the 'life' phenomena and lived to tell the take.
With an introduction to each sketch ad pertinent Bible verse, each one could be used as a hook for the main sermon. There are some thoughts and, occasionally, a prayer to help focus our thoughts.
The sketches use the minimum of props and require two actors who don't mind putting their tongues firmly in their cheeks - their own, that is, not each other's! The reflective Bible readings and prayers work well if two other people deliver them as though they are still part of the presentation, leaving the person bringing the message or sermon to pick up where they leave of..
Overall, the sketches are intended to be fun to perform, fun to watch and fun to reflect upon as you wonder whether it's . . . actually love.
