Year-round Assemblies
Brian Ogden / Jo Dobbs
Year-round assemblies is a unique story-based resource book, designed to span three terms with ten collective assemblies in each, chronologically covering the lives of David, Jesus and Peter.

To provide a sense of anticipation and a break from traditional methods, without too much added work for already busy teachers or church leaders, a variety of storytelling approaches are used. Some are told by an adult leader and include ideas for interactive storytelling; some are designed for presentation by an individual class or group and are child-led. Some are based on drama outlines, with two or three voices sharing the narration, plus inclusive participation using OHP or similar visual aids.

Each assembly plan includes suggested hymns from Come and Praise books 1 and 2. There are also three songs with simple on-the-page piano music, reflecting the lives of the characters featured, which have been especially written to accompany the material.

The extension activities cover a wide variety of PSHE/Citizenship objectives from the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. Within the activities are elements for discussion, writing, drama and research.
