In 1937 New London, Texas, a school suffers a gas leak explosion that leaves more than 300 children, teachers and visitors dead. Oilfield mechanic Luke Robertson loses his younger sister, and Russell Smith loses his connection to his past. Ten years after the event, the two men meet by accident, and eventually tell each other their stories. In doing so they achieve a healing that had long eluded them.
