Father's Voice, The
J McGee-Bradford
As a top attorney in her firm, Brenda has achieved her life's dream. Or has she? She remembers her father's voice--""Promise me something, Brenda. When you get old enough, run away from Rattlebone Hollow and never look back." Well, she ran and went far. Her father would surely be proud of her achievements. But then Russell Dawson comes into her life when his cleaning company begins servicing the building where Brenda works. He spends much of his spare time at My Father's House, a center for a troubled neighborhood's teens and seniors, and urges Brenda to get involved. Despite her determination and her boss's encouragement to follow her career path, Brenda is drawn to the kids at My Father's House--and to Russell. But she is a lawyer and he cleans offices. What could they have in common? Matters become more complicated when there is a burglary at Brenda's law firm, throwing suspicion on Russell and his cleaning company. And when violence breaks out at My Father's House, the well-being of the kids Brenda has come to care about is threatened. Brenda is torn between Russell, My Father's House, her boss's advice, listening for her heavenly Father's voice, and all the while remembering her father's words: ""Run, run, run, as fast as you can."
