The context of world mission is undergoing radical change. The combined effect of globalisation, postmodernity and the growth of the global church is forcing western Christian agencies to consider new and different ways of fulfilling the great commission. In their new book, Connect!, Tim Jeffery and Steve Chalke seek to explain how the landscape of global mission is changing dramatically and suggest new ways of engaging with these challenges.

Jeffery and Chalke argue that the traditional roles of mission agencies and local churches in global mission are heading for a massive shake up. For the last two centuries the role of the local church has been to support the work of the mission agencies. However, in the new era, a growing number of churches in the UK are engaging directly in relationships with churches and projects in other parts of the world. This means that mission agencies have now got to find ways to support them if some of them are going to survive.

Connect! is a wakeup call for the church to respond to the challenges of this new era. It aims to inspire local churches to take up the opportunity before them, and to help equip them in this changing role.

The Connect! initiative was founded by Oasis Trust and is now a partnership with CMS, Global Connections and Radstock Ministries.
