This book uses the Gospel stories of Jesus and his disciples as threads which weave together to make a journey through Lent. There is one assembly for each school day in Lent (28 in total) covering a range of Gospel events, beginning with the baptism of Jesus and journeying to the cross. There is also an Easter assembly which introduces the story of the resurrection, approaching the death of Jesus in a sensitive and appropriate way for primary-aged children.

A simple yet powerful visual aid for these assemblies can be created by winding thread on to a plain cross; adding threads of different colours or textures each day to reflect the mood of each stage of the journey.
