These 80 or so prayers were written principally for cathedral evensong, i.e. public worship, but are equally appropriate for private meditation.

They are often powerful, thought-ful, ‘lean’ and not rambling, and some include a verse from Scripture. They are divided into two sections: prayers of abiding in the love of God, essentially contemplative in style, aiming to help us to rest in the mystery of God, and prayers of seeking the kingdom of God - moving out into a struggling world.
