Deconstruction Of Dualism Within Theology : With Special
Mculloch, Gilli
The book explores the way in which Christian ecofeminist theologians have attempted to reconstruct theology through a rejection of dualism. It is shown that when dualism is removed from theological discourse, the tendency is to adopt a pantheistic monist perception of the God-world relationship and a reductive materialism regarding notions of the self--both of which are shown to be inimical to the spiritual concerns of Christian ecofeminism. The problems this raises for Christian theology are highlighted through an examination of some recent New Age spiritualities. It is argued that dualism takes different forms and that not all dualistic constructions need to follow the pattern of the traditional Western patriarchal spiritual dynamic.
