Picking up the pieces - Prayers for Life and all that Stuff
TOWNSEND, PETER
Trying to find the words to express how you feel can often seem like attempting to eat soup with chopsticks - frustrating and embarrassing! Even more annoying is trying to say how you feel to someone who already knows what you're going to say, has seen it all before, was with you when it happened and has the ability to do anything about any situation!
Chatting to God when the last thing you feel like doing is talking can be difficult. What do you say? Should every other word be 'thee', 'thou', 'hath', 'verily'? Anyway, doesn't God have enough to do without being pestered all the time by us and our trivial problems?
The bottom line is that God loves us for who we are, not what we are supposed to be. Thinking that God is a far-off supreme being who is only interested in perfection is the same as believing that the earth is flat!
The simple truth is that God enjoys nothing better than when we are honest, facing up to the fact that being perfect is something we'll never achieve, and not pretending that there's nothing wrong when really our heart is at breaking point.
Looking at issues such as hurt, anger, doubt, fear, loneliness and love, Pete Townsend brings you prayers that may help you tell God how you're feeling and allow him to get involved in picking up the pieces with you.
