Israel in Exile: The History and Literature of the Sixth Century BCE
Rainer Albertz
About half of the material in the Hebrew Bible came into being or was substantially shaped during the exilic period, says Albertz (Old Testament, U. of Münster, Germany), and so the kernel of his study discusses the literature of that period. He first examines the major literary genres, then looks in detail at documents that can be assigned to this period with reasonable assurance. Other sections cover the biblical picture, the history, and some theological contributions of the period. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the book and distributes the paperbound edition (1-58983-055-5); Brill distributes the clothbound edition. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
