Review by Sarah HounslowThis gripping adventure story, set in Hampstead, close to the heart of London's West End, follows the tale of twins Sadie and Saskia Dopple who were left at the Isambard Dunstan's orphanage when they were just children. The real adventure begins as the inseparable duo are abruptly torn apart, and Saskia is whisked away by the rather ominous character of Muzz Elliot, to Spaniards House where she begins to unravel a plot that could cost her nothing less than her life. Meanwhile, sister Sadie, accompanied by a fellow orphan Erik, attempt to find and rescue Saskia from whatever clutches she finds herself placed in, encountering far more danger than they had hoped for along the way.
Author G.P. Taylor, who has been hailed “the new C.S. Lewis”, creates an engaging world through which the reader's mind can wander, that is amplified by the dramatic artwork which accompanies the story. This is a quick read, and the varied and interesting page layouts which Taylor uses make it ideal for younger or less confident readers. However, this does not imply a lack of content; throughout the book, Taylor tackles issues of honesty and truth; fear and safety; friends and foes, and most prominently the forces of good and evil, which make it a thrilling first installment to the Dopple Ganger Chronicles. Although this could be classed at face value as a secular children's novel, there are undertones of the author's faith within the story, even if his message is slightly ambiguous.
